Hard water is a problem that affects most regions in Poland. Although it does not adversely affect health, it contributes to a decrease in the quality of drinking water.
It can also cause the formation and deposition of limescale, which causes damage to various domestic appliances.
What is water softening salt?
Salt tablets for water treatment are compressed portions of salt that are used to soften water with devices called softeners. High-quality salt lozenges dissolve evenly and do not form salt bridges, which guarantees the correct operation of the water softener.
What are salt tablets used for?
Salt tablets are designed to regenerate the ion exchange bed located in the softener.
A key step in maintaining the performance of a water softener is the ion exchange bed regeneration process. This procedure is necessary to restore the ion-exchange bed to a condition that allows for the effective removal of calcium and magnesium cations from the water. Over time, after repeated water softening, the ion exchange bed becomes saturated with these ions, reducing its ability to soften further.
How does it work?
The tablets work on the principle of ion exchange - removing water hardness caused by the presence of ions (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺).
The calcium ions and minerals that are responsible for the hardness of the water are replaced by sodium ions in the ion resin, resulting in the hard water being 'softened'.
Benefits of salt tablets
The great advantage of using a water softener and therefore salt tablets is that there is no limescale build-up. This leads to damage to domestic appliances and can lead to their breakdown. Over time, it reduces the efficiency of the water system in our home by narrowing the flow in the pipes.
The salt tablets used in the softeners do not adversely affect the taste of the water, as they do not come into direct contact with the water during softening. They are used by the unit exclusively for the ion exchange bed regeneration process.
Another benefit of using salt tablets in the softener is softer washing and more effective washing of dishes.
