Telephone exchange - what is it?

Modern telephone exchanges use advanced technologies, such as VOIP, applications supporting the operation of call centres, call routing supervision, etc. The offer of services related to high-tech telecommunications can be found by contacting with our specialists in this area.
Let's connect to a previous era
Meanwhile, let's move back in time. The first manual telephone exchange was commissioned in 1878 in New Haven. The designer of this device was Almon Strowger. It allowed two conversations to be carried out simultaneously. It is interesting to note that the American was an undertaker. Telephonists at the time connected telephone calls by hand. Presumably, Strowger's competitors bribed the call connectors. Customers who called his funeral home were redirected to competing companies. Almon Strower was losing customers, so he took action. He was very creative and entrepreneurial. And that's how the first telephone liaison ... was established.
Telephone exchange from the communist era
A unique analogue switchboard telephone exchange stands in our company space. This historic model was manufactured in 1977 by the Polish manufacturer Telekom-Telemor. The CB-20/40 model still impresses today in terms of its visual form. In addition, it also impresses with its technical condition.
In communist times, it was used to connect calls between subscribers in small towns. The connection was based on the establishment of a connection (acoustic path) between callers in different locations. The device also performed the function of a switch, which physically established connections between subscribers' areas. Devices of this type carried out telephone communications until the mid-1990s.
Where did our company's historic telephone switch come from?
Well, at the beginning of the 1990s, when the telecommunications market in Poland began to undergo a profound transformation, a rapid replacement of the network began. The telephone exchange at that time was being dynamically automated. Our company was involved in many liquidations of positions manually operated by telephonists. The switchboard probably originated from a small town where telephone saturation was low.
All in all, this unique piece of furniture located in the headquarters of Cetel-Serwis Sp. z o.o., reminds us every day of the beginnings of our business. But not only. It is a witness to the development of our company, a source of memories from the communist times. Above all, it is a substitute for the memory of our co-workers who are no longer with us.
