Geogrid has a variety of practical applications - from garden landscaping to pipeline foundations. It is used to reinforce the ground and strengthen the subsoil. Its versatility is valued by many industries. There are many cellular geogrids on the market, which differ in dimensions, material of construction or purpose. So what do you need to know about them and how to choose the best product for your needs?
Geogrid - what is it?
Geogrid is a product that is primarily used for soil stabilisation - including driveways, embankments and slopes. With its use, you will appropriately and thoughtfully develop the space, including the car park. Furthermore, the price of geogrids is very favourable, so it is an economical solution.
It is worth remembering that robust geogrids can be easily placed both on flat surfaces and on slopes. Of course, the ground must be as well-prepared and compacted as possible, so that no ruts are formed during use. The product is also designed to be filled with aggregate or soil. You can also sow grass on it or roll out artificial grass from a roll.
Undoubtedly an important feature of a geogrid is its resistant to significant dynamic and static loads. Its construction is not complicated either - in most cases it is made up of many cells that form a honeycomb-like structure. Available in a range of sizes, including 3m x 5m or 2.46 x 6.06m when unfolded, the most popular comes in shades of black and green.
What use is a geogrid?
Geogrid is a product that has many uses, you can use it for:
- construction of pavements, circulation areas and car parks,
- protection of slopes, ditches and embankments against erosion,
- strengthening the coastline and dykes,
- sewer and pipeline substructures,
- garden design,
- reinforcing the substructure of rail and vehicular roads.
In addition, the cellular geogrid is used in the creation of roof gardens. It superbly improves the aesthetics of areas of the property that are difficult to manage. More and more people are choosing to fill geogrids with humus and plant decorative vegetation in their place.
Cellular geogrid - find out its benefits!
What is the phenomenon of geogrids? First of all, its versatility, attractive price and extremely simple assembly and disassembly. The structure is reusable, safe for the environment and recycled. The economic and ecological aspects are therefore in favour of its purchase, while its anti-erosion action contributes to the safety and aesthetics of the area.
Geogrid is not biodegradable and UV rays are not harmful to it. Resistant to harsh weather conditionsIt is distinguished by its durability and longevity. It does not fade into the ground and preserves the environment in its natural state. Its other advantages are:
- the possibility of using a range of fillers, including concrete, aggregate, grass and soils with vegetation,
- increasing the resistance of geogrid infill materials to harmful external conditions (particularly useful for garden establishment),
- reduced settlement caused by natural compaction,
- limitation of lateral displacements of the encapsulated material in the geocells,
- In soils with low bearing capacity, the use of geogrids significantly improves the strength of the road.
How to lay a geogrid?
A key issue is the laying of the geogrid so that it performs its function in the best possible way. What does this basic step-by-step activity look like?
- First, delineate the area according to the design or sketch (remember to level out any irregularities).
- Lay out the first section of geogrid, after stretching the grid, fix it with anchor pins, reinforcement bars. We recommend using 12 pins per geogrid.
- Unfold the adjacent section so that its edges are adjacent to the other sections.
- Join the sections together using a pneumatic stapler.
- Once the connections are made, start filling the geogrid with backfill material.
The laying of geogrids may look different in each area. This is why it is important to follow the manufacturer's recommendations exactly.
As you can see, grokrat has many uses. It is an interesting alternative to concrete blocks. Its [laying is not difficult and does not require complicated tools. For those with less gloom to cover, we also recommend lawn grids, of which we have previously written.
