The lawn grating is one of a group of popular solutions for securing and levelling lawn areas, as well as for the efficient passage of rainwater into the ground, making the irrigation of the garden much quicker. The garden grid is an ecological solution (they are only made from recycled materials) and economical. What are the characteristics of lawn reinforcement gratings on a property?
Lawn grating - characteristics
It perfectly stabilises the ground, effectively hardens and reinforces the ground and provides a perfectly even surface. Lawn grids are installed in gardens and driveways. It can be used as protection against animals, to reinforce the edges of ponds, it can be used to reinforce the ground on paths, driveways and car parks (parking, driveway grating).
The lawn grille consists of quadrilateral-shaped segments that can be joined together to create the desired shape and surface. The strength of the grille is provided by a honeycomb-like construction with distinctive meshes (circular, square or hexagonal in shape) throughout.
It is usually made of plastics of varying hardness and resistance to mechanical damage:
- The strongest grilles have thicker walls and reinforced edges, which can be filled with stones - particularly recommended for warehouses or car parks,
- Slightly lighter grids allow filling with grass and aggregate (gravel, small stones),
- The lightest type is the classic grass ecogrid, e.g. a black lawn grid measuring 50x50x2.5 cm or 50x50x4 cm.
- An exception to this is the popular parking (road) grating, which is designed for frequent vehicle traffic and heavy weights (450 t/m2) and has a reinforced wall thickness of 5 mm.
The grids we offer are usually black or green (for example: parking grate 50×50 cm), so they remain unobtrusive and do not adversely affect the appearance of the area.
A similar function is performed by the geogrid, which we have written about in another article. However, it comes in larger sheets and is more flexible.
Cinderblock panel - what is the installation?
The installation of the lawn grille is characterised by quick, easy installation. Even an inexperienced person can manage it. There are a few preliminary steps to be taken before the actual installation of the grille:
- mark the future location of the grille,
- thoroughly level and compact the substrate,
- Apply a layer of gravel, sand, asphalt.
Then we move on to the actual installation, i.e. the laying of the lawn grids. The lawn grids in our range are equipped with elements for connecting the individual segments. The assembly of the grating does not require the purchase of additional anchors or fasteners. In order to obtain non-standard shapes, the grating can be adjusted by cutting out the desired shape with a handsaw or angle grinder. The final step is to backfill all the holes. They can be filled with earth and grass sown, or in driveways or parking areas they can be backfilled with gravel.

Garden grating - advantages
The popularity of lawn grids is testament to their distinct advantages, which include:
- relatively low purchase price,
- excellent permeability and proper water circulation,
- Ground stabilisation, prevention of rutting,
- made of plastic for durability,
- durability and high weather resistance,
- possibility of vegetation cover,
- very good environmental impact - plant growth on the grid is not disturbed and the products themselves can be treated as a biologically active surface (when overgrown with grass).
